About Us
The mission of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) Oakwood at the Wayne State University School of Medicine is to advance the field of musculoskeletal and rehabilitation medicine through the education of medical students, residents, other healthcare professionals, and the public in general; a process which utilizes basic science and clinical research, as well as excellent patient care, while improving the quality of life for individuals with physical disabilities.
In April 2009, we received ACGME accreditation for a Wayne State University single-sponsor residency program in PM&R. The new program includes 4 slots per year at PGY-2 to PGY-4.
In February 2011, the Wayne State University single-sponsor residency program in PM&R at Oakwood received ACGME approval to sponsor the PGY-1 transitional year for PM&R. Our accredited PM&R residency program now includes the PGY-1 to PGY-4 years, with 16 approved slots
Participating sites for the program include: Oakwood Heritage Hospital (Taylor), Oakwood Hospital and Medical Center (Dearborn), John D. Dingell VA Medical Center (Detroit), and Detroit Institute for Children (Detroit).
Oakwood Heritage Hospital serves as the primary participating site. The Department of PM&R Oakwood also has research facilities on the Wayne State campus in Detroit, including at Scott Hall and VA Medical Center and Lande Building in conjunction with the Department of Orthoapedics.
